Peaked cap (Schirmutze)
This peaked cap worn by NCOs was very similar to that worn by Officers but was not often worn on the front line where the feldmutze was normally worn.
The chinstrap on the NCO's cap was made of a shiny black material instead of the metal cord of the officers cap, also the material was of a lesser quality. The cockade, wreath and eagle were normally made of aluminium and the branch of service colour ringed the crown of the cap.

An NCO's Schirmutze with the stiffening removed. This was
a common practice.
